Ready Washington Announces 10 Winners in “Opt In” Video Competition; Each Receives $500 Scholarship

Ready Washington has announced the winners of its “Opt In” video contest. (We wrote about it here.) Each of the ten winners will receive a $500 scholarship. In addition, each selected a favorite teacher to receive a $100 gift card. The videos are inspiring and persuasive. And they underscore the serious intent of the “opt in” campaign.

As Ready Washington writes,

The goal of the Opt In for Student Success project is to build the student voice to talk about the importance of a high-quality education, the value of assessments and being prepared for college and career. We want Washington students to compete for the quality jobs we have in our state.

The Seattle Times editorial board writes,

THE Smarter Balanced assessment is an important tool for educators and parents to gauge whether Washington’s children are prepared for college and ready to compete for jobs in the future.

We agree. And we commend the ten winning students for their endorsement of the assessments, as we commend all the students who participated in the campaign.
