A new Tax Foundation report finds that Washington falls pretty much in the middle of the fifty states in term of its reliance on property taxes to fund state and local government.
Property taxes are an important revenue source for state and local governments. In fiscal year 2014 (the most recent data available), property taxes were the largest source of state and local tax collections, comprising 31.3 percent.
Washington property taxes amount to 29.9 percent of total state and local tax collections, according to the Tax Foundation report, ranking it No. 26.
